The 100 MPG Challenge Itinerary is released
Abbotsford’s One-Tonne Challenge Steering Committee was presented with the published itinerary for the 100 MPG Challenge August 17th at City Hall. (You can download an excel version of the itinerary here.)
The Challenge will officially begin in Victoria BC on Sunday August 28th. The eastbound legs to St Johns, NF will be completed on Tuesday September 13th. The return to the west coast will be done on a different route through Labrador and Quebec, and will see a final stop in Vancouver, BC on September 29th.
Two of the highlights of the itinerary will actually not involve driving.
On September 12th, a 14 hour sailing will be taken from North Sydney, NS to Argentia, NF via Marine Atlantic. This will put the tour within 150 kms of St Johns.
Then, to take the road-less-travelled yet again, the tour winds to the north of Newfoundland and goes to Blanc-Sablon, QC on the border with Labrador. From here, a 36 hour sailing will be taken along the St Lawrence to Natashquan, QC via Relais-Nordik. The car will be loaded into a container, and placed on the ship’s deck.
The tour will also see the smart car going through South Baymouth and Tobermory, ON while taking the MS Chi-Cheemaun.
Many nights accomodations are being provided by fellow members of Club smart car.
