SCOOT

Posted by NRG SVR in 100 MPG Challenge

I left Bradford Wednesday morning, and took a very brief jaunt through downtown Toronto. I was not prepared for the sheer immensity and seemingly chaotic state of things…

After visiting Jason at his work, I set out for Uxbridge to meet another smart owner, Rich Helms. He had arranged for a few other owners to come out to a show ‘n shine between 6 and 8.

I had really been looking forward to meeting Annette and her husband Rupert. They have also done a long distance trip in a smart car, travelling some 14,500 kms through the USA and Canada. You can check out their site.

After the show ‘n shine, Rich hosted us at his house. Rich owns a software management company in Uxbridge, and lives about 10 minutes away. Both he and his wife Dorothea are accomplished writers.

Dorothea made us all a fine selection of food. Rich went the extra step of assisting with an oil change for my car - by providing the facility and the 3 litres of Mobil 1 I needed.

After the other owners departed, Rich, Dorothea and I spent the evening watching a bit of TV, and talking about fuel efficient cars. Seems they have always driven fuel efficient vehicles - Suzuki being at the top of the list. They even have a convertible Suzuki Vitara 4×4 with the small but awesome 1.6 litre engine.

I retired for the night and left early the next morning for Kingston. It was raining. Lots.

It was great to meet you and other smart car owners at Haugen’s. As much as we love our smart fortwo Trudi, we prefer to use alternate transport whenever possible (walk, cycle, public transit, car pool). We also opt for energy saving appliances and minimize hydro and water consumption on a daily basis. Wishing you a safe and fulfilling journey,
    Annette
