Reaching Mile 0 in St Johns

Posted by NRG SVR in 100 MPG Challenge

Today at noon, I went to Mile O at St Johns City Hall, and was greeted by Mayor Andy Wells. NTV were on hand, and the footage made the evening news, despite municipal elections coverage being of prime importance right now in Newfoundland and Labrador.

I also went to Cape Spear, which is the most easterly point of land in North America.

After visiting at City Hall, I filled up at the Virginia Park Ultramar. Final fuel economy details for leg 1 are as follows:

8057 kms travelled
282 litres of fuel
3.49 L/100km average (80.9 mpg imperial or 67.2 mpg US)

$290.34 spent on fuel
average price per litre: 102.9

When I estimated my cost for the trip, diesel was 89.9 back in Abbotsford.

So, I met the fuel economy numbers I set for myself, but the crazy prices the Maritimes are faced with blew the budget by $40.00

My return trip is slightly shorter, and I also hope to send some unneccessary cargo home on the bus. With some careful driving, I may be able to beat the 3.5 L/100km I have achieved. My cargo weighs in at roughly 250 lbs, and this, along with high winds are hampering my ability to get consistently good economy. Good for me is 85 mpg and higher.

I achieved 113 mpg (imperial) while out in SK, which is 2.5 L/100km, or 94 mpg (US).

I would like to attempt 100 mpg (US) on the return trip, which is 2.35 L/100km (120 mpg imperial)
