Kenora and Keewatin

Posted by NRG SVR in 100 MPG Challenge

I left from Atikokan as planned and made my way through Fort Frances and onwards to Emo. I was passed at some point by of all things, another Honda Insight. The second I’d seen that day. (Rumour has it they only sold NINE cars for the 2004 model year in Canada. Good luck trying to find one to look at - dealers do not carry them.)

In Emo, I found something interesting, and had to do a u-turn to have a look and bring you this picture:

From Emo, I pressed on again to the junction of hwy 11 and 71, where I took what is known as the Heenan Highway. These photos are from Muskie Bay:

Passing through Sioux Narrows, I was now deep in Lake of the Woods territory. What a beautiful area. An angler’s dream no doubt.

I reached Kenora in time to have a quick look around. I called my grandmother, Leona Pealey, and asked her about the place. She was born in nearby Keewatin in 1928, the daughter of two pure Swedes.

Kenora is beautiful.

I stopped in Keewatin long enough to get a few more pictures, and interestingly, a fellow stopped me who also owns a smart car - although today he had his truck on the road with a boat. He’s supposed to send me a song about smart cars that his son wrote. I’ll post the file here when it arrives.

From Keewatin, I pressed onwards back onto hwy 17 and into Manitoba…
